The invention of the bicycle ushered in a new spirit of freedom during the late 19th century. Urban transportation became easy, fast, and accessible. The Golden Age of Cycles reached its pinnacle in the mid 1890s-the heart of the Belle Epoque. The newfound freedom of the bicycle, a benchmark for this innovative period of time, was communicated through beautiful posters created for each bicycle of the day.
The Cycles Clement poster painted in 1894 by PAL (Jean de Paleologue), one of the great Parisian artists of the day, evokes the elegance, grace, and Joy of cycling. In every bottle of Cycles Clement wine we capture the uninhibited joy that begins in California vineyards, builds over time as the wine is made and is then eventually unleashed into every glass. With Cycles Clement Pinot Noir, wine lovers now have the "Freedom to Enjoy!"
Hahn Estate wines feature grapes sourced from estate vineyards in the Arroyo Seco appellation of Monterey County. A hidden gem, located below the Santa Lucia Highlands, these vineyards sit on a gravelly alluvial plain with rocky soils fostering excellent drainage. Cool winds channeling South from Monterey Bay through the Salinas Valley ensure gradual ripening, full development of vibrant fruit flavors and bright acidity. Arroyo Seco, one of the smallest AVAs in the state, boasts one of the longest growing seasons. In this region, warm and sunny days are followed by cool afternoons once wind blowing in from the Monterey Bay sweeps through the Salinas Valley. This daily cooling effect allows for longer hang times and creates ripe fruit.
Internationally recognized for gorgeous, pure fruit combined with great elegance, California Pinot noir thrives among the state’s cooler, coastal zones. Characterized by eclectic flavors and aromas of strawberry, black cherry, plum and potpourri with notes of forest floor, mushroom or black tea, the best California Pinot noir boast a supple texture and good acidity, giving them the ability to improve with age.
Credited with the beginning of Pinot noir’s glory in California, two growers, Joe Rochioli and Joseph Swan in the late 1960s independently planted Pinot noir vineyards in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County. Today Sonoma County remains the leading producer of Pinot noir in the state, and Pinot noir is the leading red grape in the county, achieving its highest potential, in the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast.
Other coastal appellations where Pinot noir flourishes include Carneros, Anderson Valley and most of the Central Coast.
