Ruby red with purplish highlights. A nose of black fruits, leather, licorice, as well as aromas of roasting, oriental spices, and eucalyptus. There is powerful aromatic intensity and a lot of fullness and structure in the mouth. A very assertive expression of terroir which expresses the elegance and power of its tannins. This wine is one for very long aging, massive and concentrated, it has a rare intensity of flavor and color.
"Starting out and one of the most prodigious wines in the vintage, the 2009 Ermitage Ex-Voto is locked and loaded, with a massive amount of raw material. Giving up thrilling amounts of plum, licorice, toasted spice and powdered rock-like minerality, it hits the palate with a muscular, full-bodied texture, big tannin and a blockbuster finish. Serious on all accounts, this incredible effort has the fruit and texture to dish out plenty of enjoyment even now, yet really needs short-term cellaring. Two to three decades of evolution should not be out of the question.

"This has a distinctive singed mesquite note out front, along with sandalwood, black tea and juniper hints, followed by a very densely packed core of raspberry, plum and blackberry confiture flavors. The long, charcoal-studded finish has a great tug of roasted earth. Dynamic and expressive, this should cellar effortlessly. Best from 2015 through 2035. 656 cases made. "
