Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Following the classic style that Mike Grgich established when we began in 1977, we did not allow the Chardonnay to undergo malolactic fermentation and our Biodynamic farming created a wine that is alive with delicious acidity. This aromatic Chardonnay is rich with aromas of ripe peach, mango and tropical flowers, plus a note of minerality. Showcase this wine's elegance with fresh seafood, roasted chicken, grilled pork, or creamy cheeses.

Critical Acclaim

"Pale yellow. Musky stone fruits, nutmeg and honey on the nose, plus a whiff of toasty, vanillin oak. Dense, tactile and juicy, conveying very good intensity without weight. Supple and ripe in the middle. The rising finish features fresh acidity (the wine did not go through malolactic fermentation) and sneaky length."

Good Chardonnay, has a acid backbone that is not unpleasant at all. Not an all out flavor bomb. I would say there are better Chards out there for the money

When the results where in, the French judges were shocked: they had chosen Mike"s 1973 Montelena...

The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard...
