Our Grand Tour de France gives you a taste of France's most prominent wine regions with a bottle each from Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Rhône Valley, the Loire Valley, Languedoc-Roussillon and Alsace. With two whites and four reds, each wine is chosen to display the unique characteristics of the region it represents. For any "bon vivant" who loves the wines of France.
Wine Gift Collection Includes:
- Bordeaux: Château Les Graves de Barrau
Displaying dark ruby colors, with aromas of blackcurrant, cherry and just a hint of vanilla, this wine is medium-bodied with dark berry flavors, well-balanced tannins and a long, smooth finish.
- Burgundy: Bouchard Bourgogne Pinot Noir
This Burgundy displays red fruit aromas, cherry, kirsch with notes of lime and mint. A plump wine with a lot of fruit and a delicate note of wood. With good persistence, it is harmonious and well balanced.
- Rhône Valley: Louis Bernard Côtes-du-Rhône
Cherry red color with concentrated berries and cherries on the nose, this wine has ample fruit, with a gentle hint of oak. An excellent match for barbeque.
- Loire Valley: Guy Saget La Petite Perriere Sauvignon Blanc
The aromas on the wine explode, leaving scents of ripe yellow (peach and apricot) and exotic fruits. Clean and refreshing with good length, the palate is a whirlwind of freshness, complexity, fineness and ends with notes of ripe melon.
- Languedoc-Roussillon: Chateau d'Aussieres Blason d'Aussieres AOC Corbieres
The nose on this wine is already very intense, with dark fruit (blackberries) and garrigue combining with toasted notes. The palate develops, with elegant tannins and roundness, to more complex notes of spices and garrigue.
- Alsace: Trimbach Pinot Blanc
This Pinot Blanc is pale straw with green reflections. It's rich and concentrated, with white flower and apricot notes. On the palate, it's smooth and medium-bodied with good fruit acidity.
- Greet Sheet with descriptions of the regions from which the six featured wines hail. The description cards are perforated as 4x5 index cards to be torn off for future reference.
Due to the popularity of this gift, wines or vintages sometimes sell out. Should this happen, we will always substitute with the current vintage and wines with equal or greater value.

I would not buy this particular gift set again, but I certainly would buy a couple of the individual wines! The 2008 Chateau d'Aussieres Blason d'Aussieres AOC Corbieres was outstanding, and the 2009 Louis Bernard Cotes-du-Rhone was also very good. The 2008 Chateau Les Graves de Barrau was creditable, although I've found better Bordeaux at a similar price point. The 2008 Lucien Albrecht Reserve Pinot Blanc Balthazar was good and very interesting, and my first for that varietal. The only real (moderate) disappointments were the 2009 Guy Saget La Petite Perriere Sauvignon Blanc and the 2007 Bouchard Bourgogne Pinot Noir. The Guy Saget was extremely tart and had a note of alcohol heat (surprising at 12.5%), and the Bouchard was so light in body it drank more like a rosé. That's not a bad thing, but it's not what I look for in a Pinot Noir. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know these wines for the first time.
