Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

Its complex aromas of black fruit (black olives, blackberry) are developed due to the controlled extraction process during vinification. Its great fresh elegance and its rich, and full aromatic range (prune, roasted coffee, blackcurrant) gives this wine a unique, well-structured style.

Professional Ratings

  • 90
Creamy, lush oaky notes harmonize with brambly berry and black cherry aromas and flavors on this accessible, modern-style Minervois. The palate is full of ripe fruit and sweet oak characteristics, with moderate tannins to provide some structure.

With bold fruit flavors and accents of sweet spice, Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre form the base of the classic Rhône Red Blend, while Carignan, Cinsault and Counoise often come in to play. Though they originated from France’s southern Rhône Valley, with some creative interpretation, Rhône blends have also become popular in other countries. Somm Secret—Putting their own local spin on the Rhône Red Blend, those from Priorat often include Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. In California, it is not uncommon to see Petite Sirah make an appearance.
