The 2008 vintage continues a remarkably strong decade of harvests in Mclaren Vale, joining 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006. An almost perfect
growing season paved the way for a remarkably strong vintage where all the strongest parcels of fruit were picked in ideal conditions.
The resultant wine has great concentration and flavour yet continues with the Gemtree trademark of fine acid and tannin lines.
Color: Purple, red with black hues.
Nose: Red cherry, cloves, violets, 100% cacao dark chocolate, sweet vanilla, black pepper and blueberries.
Palate: A multi layered generous and hugely complex wine. The dark chocolate and red berries flow richly onto the palate combining
with complex savoury oak that paves the way for a seamless finish. The highlight of this wine is the persistence which we attribute to the balance of flavour, acid and tannin.
"Deep, dense colour; regional licorice and dark chocolate overtones to the blackberry fruit of the bouquet leap from the glass, the medium- to full-bodied palate providing more of the same, with 16 months in French oak doing little more than rounding off the tannins.

Australian Wine Companion
"A viticultural wine at its best. Hands off winemaking, purity of fruit, unfined, unfiltered, the raw gem, the uncut version. The
2008 Uncut Shiraz spent 16 months in 100% new, predominantly French oak before bottling without fining or filtration.
Captivating aromas of sandalwood, smoked meat, incense, lavender, blueberry, and chocolate lead to a layered, full-bodied, succulent Shiraz with excellent grip and length. Enjoy this pleasure-bent effort over the next 8-10 years."

The Gemtree Vineyards brand was launched in 1998 and is the logical extension for the Buttery family’s involvement in viticulture & winemaking over the last 30 years.
Paul and Jill Buttery purchased their first vineyard on Tatachilla Road, McLaren Vale in 1980, following many years in the liquor retailing business and in 1991 they acquired a 140 acre property, Gemtree, in McLaren Flat.
Family plantings now total some 330 acres and this is recognised as one of the largest private holdings in McLaren Vale.
McLaren Vale is home to the oldest Australian vineyard, with grapes planted in 1838. It's a coastal area, the Indian Ocean bordering the west, which leads to a cooling factor that prevents the grapes from getting too hot. In all, the climate is a perfect one for the vines.
In McLaren Vale, there are vines as far as the eye can see. As in other parts of...Read More About McLaren Vale
(seh-RAH/shee-RAHZ) It's a Smokin' Grape Syrah and Shiraz - same grape, different name. It's a popular and adept variety, growing in multiple regions and creating many different styles of wine. The home base of Syrah is the Northern Rhone, where it creates the exclusive wines of Hermitage and Cote Rotie. On the less pricy side, the Rhone makes Syrah-based wines in Crozes...Read More About Syrah/Shiraz
