Winemaker Notes

Simple and alluring aromas of ripe plum and light red cherry entice the nose. On the palate, this delicate wine is bright with sensational flavors of raspberry and rhubarb. An elegant and soft wine. The barrel aging in French Oak has a moderate influence showcasing slight hints of vanilla on the long pleasant finish.

Spiced cherries enhance the bouquet of rose petals and perpetuate from nose to palate. Lifted acidity walks a high wire for a delicate, pretty, fresh and feminine wine. This is Gehricke at its best: a springtime rush of red fruit and flower with a dot of white pepper and vanilla bean at the end of the path (Publisher’s Picks).

Showing excellent liveliness and purity of fruit, the 2014 Gehricke Pinot Noir brings a beautiful combination of red fruit, chalk, and savory spices to the fore. The wine's stellar balance pairs it well with a crown roast of lamb. (Tasted: February 2, 2017, San Francisco, CA)

Softly floral and brightly spicy, this wine rocks in red cherry and tangy citrus, sure to please a broad range of palates in its approachable elegance and restraint. Toasted vanilla oak rounds out the finish.

Gehricke Winery Video

"Growing up in Sonoma, we spent a lot of time exploring the local countryside: finding our way through neighboring vineyards owned by old friends and family. I remember the excitement of discovery and freedom while, as a young boy, I thoroughly studied our small town and its outskirts. I remember old dusty roads that led to forgotten vineyards and properties...Gehricke is a tribute to one such road.” - August Sebastiani, Proprietor

While the Russian River Valley is a large appellation with multiple climate zones and soil types, it is best known for cool-climate varieties, with Pinot Noir as the most celebrated. The grapes benefit from a reliable late afternoon flow of Pacific Ocean fog through the Petaluma Gap and along the Russian River Valley that ensures slow and steady ripening and the preservation of grape acidity. Today many of California’s most highly regarded Pinot Noir vineyards are in the Russian River Valley, along with its sub-appellation, Green Valley.

Historically Russian River Valley Pinot Noirs had bright red fruit and delicate earthy, mineral notes. But changes in viticultural and winemaking practices have led to stylistic changes in some of the region’s wines. Adjustments to canopy management, among other techniques, have resulted in riper fruit and bolder wines as well. These show flavors of black cherry, blackberry, cola, spice and darker, loamy earth tones, accenting traditional Pinot Noir notes of strawberry, raspberry and light cherry.
