    Winemaker Notes

Exhibiting fruit and spice flavors, acidity and texture in perfect balance and harmony, the brilliant garnet jewel color of the wine offers a visual statement of the depths of its flavors. It brims with roses and allspice, smoked cherry and baked cranberry, and a beautiful integrated ribbon of toffee and caramel.

Pair this Pinot Noir with roasted pork tenderloin medallions, spice-grilled chicken breast, or salmon seared with freshly ground black pepper and enjoy!

My G-Squared philosophy at Gauthier Select Vineyards is a quest for the best. It is my belief that small portions of a vineyard can produce the best, most interesting fruit. Therefore, I personally have found and contracted with some of California's Historic cornerstone vineyard sites. These special sections of the vineyard lots are sustainably nurtured to provide me with complex flavors and the opportunity to style wines that showcase grace and power – fully layered wines from top to bottom. My commitment is to guide each selected vineyard site from the Ground to Grape and into your Glass. That’s my Gift to you.

The Sonoma Coast AVA is large in area but, not counting overlapping regions like Russian River Valley, only has a few thousand acres of grapevines—and it’s no wonder. Much of the region is rugged and not easily accessible. Its proximity to the Pacific Ocean’s fog and cool breezes limits the varieties that can be cultivated, but it proves to be an ideal environment for high quality Pinot Noir.

Since fog is a frequent fact of life here, as are heavy marine layers that sometimes bring rain, the best vineyards are wisely planted above the fog line, on picturesque ridges that capture enough sun to provide even ripening. That, with the overnight drop in temperature that reliably preserves acidity, results in fine expressions of Pinot Noir that often receive tremendous critic and consumer praise alike, and are often in high demand.
