winemaker's notes:
Due to the slightly richer soil, Rennina is usually softer and a bit less tannic than Sugarille. Very clean, opulent aromas, with notes of ripe red fruits evolving into delicate spice and floral perfumes. Powerful and velvety in flavor with a fleshy and sustained finish and refined tannins.

This is my favorite Brunello, a little more modern in style with smooth tannins and deep mocha notes. 99 was an excellent year for Brunello and this wine can age for many years to come.
Note that the region listed on this site is incorrect, the wine is not from Piedmont, although Gaja makes wine in Piedmont, since he's the king of Barbaresco, this wine is from the region of Tuscany in Central Italy in the district of Montalcino, southern Montalcino in the vineyards of Pieve Santa Resituta. The southern part of Montalcino is where the fuller bodied Brunello's come from such as Banfi and Pian Delle Vigne, the northern Brunello's are very light and elegant such as Altesino. It's a matter of what your taste is. You can't really go wrong with this one though.

The 1999 Reninna is an absolutely beautiful wine and a pleasure to the palate. With a soft, fruity, earthy nose, a silky entrance and long, smooth, sexy finish, Gaja shows control and love in this incredible wine. JT
