Winemaker Notes
La Boudriotte, located on the grounds of the Morgeot Abbey, is a small subsection of the famous Morgeot premier cru climat, which lies just southeast of Chassagne-Montrachet village. Gagnard-Delagrange makes nine barrels of La Boudriotte, blending from old vines in three different sections of this gently sloping, east-facing vineyard. The top section is hard limestone covered with small rocks, the midsection contains more clay and the bottom section is white marly (chalky) soil. The characteristics fostered by each soil type come together to form this rich, elegant, very complex wine with good acidity and structure. Four to five years of bottling aging will bring it to its full glory.
With the passing of the legendary Jacques Gagnard in July 2009, this domaine has been run by his widow Marie-Josèphe (daughter of Edmond Delagrange) and their grandson Marc-Antonin Blain. Over the last fifteen years or so, most of the vineyards have been handed on to their two daughters (Laurence, married to Richard Fontaine; and Claudine, married to Jean-Marc Blain). However, the domaine continues to produce outstanding, long-lived wines from the approximately 3 hectares it retains.
