Winemaker's Notes

This is our second bottling of Pinot Gris from our own vineyards (grown, produced and bottled by Flynn Vineyards). Vines are now five years old, and demonstrating that time is indeed an ally in the wine business.

The 1997 vintage year was generally friendly, ending a bit sooner than we would have hoped for, although the grapes were clean and mature, and were picked before rain became a problem. The resulting wine is well balanced, showing good varietal character. Orange peel and honey come to mind. The mouth feel is a little on the soft side, with acid preventing flabbiness. Finish is long and pleasant. Salmon and Pinot Gris are truly great companions.

Learn About Flynn

Flynn Vineyards Winery is located in Rickreall, Oregon, ten miles west of Salem. In 1990 Flynn Vineyards began construction of a new winery which is the realization of a plan conceived in 1982 when Wayne Flynn purchased fifty acres of property near the Eola Hills and planted his new land with Pinot Noir vines. In 1987, Mickey & Jeanne Flynn joined in a partnership with Wayne when they purchased the adjoining forty acres. Eleven acres were planted with Chardonnay and sixteen acres in Pinot Gris. The remaining acres were set aside for the winery site.

Though sunshine is...

Pinot Gris' most popular and successful region is Alsace, France, an area of the country that actually puts the name of the grape on the label. Pinot Grigio is the Italian version of the grape,...
