Deep vibrant red color. Delicate floral notes of rose petal and bergamot combine with hints of forest floor, earth and ripe cherry. Flavors emerge with raspberry, red current and dried cherry with hints of graphite and other minerals. The wine's texture is elegant and smooth across the palate with an enduring finish.
Sea View Ridge Vineyard is situated at elevations ranging from 1,400 to 1,875 feet putting it well above the fog layer that fills the lower valleys during the warm summer months. As former seabed, the soils here on the ridge tops are shallow and rocky with a mix of volcanic soils in the lower blocks and broken sandstone and shale higher up which naturally reduces yields. Planted in 1998, the older vines produce fruit with layers of complexity and wines with exceptional natural acidity.
"A cool climate has given this wine bracing acidity and gentle-yet-persistent tannins. Its flavors of wild raspberries and cherries, with spice and mineral overtones, are delicious. There's a feral quality that expresses umami perfectly, suggesting butter-sauteed, tamari-splashed mushrooms and crisped prosciutto. The oak is powerful and present in the form of toast and sweet vanilla, but perfectly balanced with the wine’s volume. For all its richness, the wine finishes bone dry."
