The 2012 Alaviana is a cuvee produced with 80% Garnacha from old-vine and young-vine Syrah. The Garnacha is aged in cement and the Syrah in used barrique and bottles after one year. It has a clean, pleasant, fruit-driven nose with aromas of red fruit and plenty of notes of balsamic Mediterranean herbs. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very good freshness and balance of all its components. This is a pleasure to drink. Great value. Rating: 90+

Floris Legere, Spain
Floris Legere is the vital project of Ludovic and Sierra. He is a French agronomist and oenologist established in Spain since 2005, she is a spanish teacher of history and geography. Together, after several years of wandering, they settled in Zaragoza with their two children and embark on this adventure centered around Sierra's family village : Villarroya de la Sierra. This village of 600 inhabitants, noteworthy for the red color of its clay, is located on the border between Aragon and Castile and Leon. Its wine tradition is very old and vines of Garnacha produce grapes at an altitude between 800 and 1000 meters above sea level It is this grape variety that Salvador, Sierra's grandfather, planted 50 years ago at a place called La Canadilla.

Spanish red wine is known for being bold, heady, rustic and age-worthy, Spain is truly a one-of-a-kind wine-producing nation. A great majority of the country is hot, arid and drought-ridden, and since irrigation has only been recently introduced and (controversially) accepted, viticulture has sustained—and flourished—only through a great understanding of Spain’s particular conditions. Large spacing between vines allows each enough resources to survive and as a result, the country has the most acreage under vine compared to any other country, but is usually third in production.

Of the Spanish red wines, the most planted and respected grape variety is Tempranillo, the star of Spain’s Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions. Priorat specializes in bold red blends, Jumilla has gained global recognition for its single varietal Monastrell and Utiel-Requena has garnered recent attention for its reds made of Bobal.
