Forceful from the opening, with floral notes, dark oak, shoe polish and char vying with black fruit aromas. Feels both lush and tough, with hard tannins poking through. Tastes of black fruits, cola and heavily toasted oak. Bittersweet on the finish; lusty and black but neither elegant nor light on its feet.

Robert
Roberto Luka, inspirer and the main shareholder of Finca Sophenia, holds a recognized background in the wine world. He was Managing Director of one of the main wine exporter companies of his country and President of Wines of Argentina. In 1997, he founded Finca Sophenia together with Gustavo Benvenuto. He named it this way after the names of their daughters: Sophia and Eugenia. Later, his friends and businessmen from other sectors joined this venture: Néstor Rebagliati and Daniel Sammartino.
The in-house winemaker, Julia Halupczok, and consultant Matias Michelini form the winemaking team.
Most distinguished and celebrated from Argentina’s Mendoza, Malbec has seen runaway success since the early 2000s. Mendoza’s agreeable, continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold snowy winters allows the perfect conditions for growing outstanding Malbec. This grape is easy to like for its lusty, deep flavors and aromas of blackberry, plum, red cherry, autumn spice and tilled earth. It’s easy to find delicious, fruit-driven, affordable everyday examples and in prices beyond, quite exceptional ones with dense, supple textures that make them capable of aging.
