    Winemaker Notes

As distinct as it is timeless, no guitar is as finely suited to the label of this bold-tasting 2012 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon than the celebrated Fender Stratocaster® guitar. The world's most popular guitar has always been revered for its recognizable contour and sparkling, focused tone. This elegant 2012 vintage from Sonoma County was created in that same vein, with a classic combination of bright, concentrated flavors, substantial body and a presence that's as commanding as the legendary instrument gracing the bottle.

    Fender, California
Fender's selection of robust red wines exudes the same opulence and bold character for which Fender guitars are known. Winemakers have opted for the darkest, ripest grapes, which undergo a painstaking fermenting process and whose tannins contribute to the body and flavor of this juicy 2012 vintage. Like Fender's master builders, who craft and shape their instruments with impeccable skill, vintners produce each varietal with impeccable detail, for a lasting flavor that resonates on the palate.

While Sonoma County is acclaimed—and rightfully so—for its Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, and Zinfandels, it also produces exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Of the region’s 18 American Viticultural Areas, only a handful produce top-notch Cabernet Sauvignon. These appellations include Alexander Valley, Knights Valley, Sonoma Valley and Dry Creek Valley. Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignons made in these appellations can offer a complex array of aromas and flavors. Fruit notes such as blackberry, blackcurrant, cassis, black cherry and raspberry often are accompanied by hints of graphite, dusty earth, cigar box, toast and vanilla. The varietal has a rich history in Sonoma, and some of these Cabernet Sauvignons and Cabernet-based blends rival the best from Napa Valley.
