Style: Smooth & Supple

Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 13.0%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
Ratings Pedigree:

Winemaker's Notes

Deep rose. Fresh and alluring; hints of pear and raspberry. Refreshing, reminiscent of red berry fruit and clean, well-defined finish.

Critical Acclaim

"Dusty up front, with leather, red plum and berry aromas. Focused and snappy in the mouth, with forward cherry and plum flavors. Finishes toasty and peppery, and overall this is a juicy wine with crispness, good fruit and spice."

OK, the deal I got was $8.99 ea for 12 bottles. Decant and breathe for 15-20 minutes. 50% Grenache & 50% Tempranillo. This is a light, tasty red with a mild finish. It is quite a value at the price. A great modest every day wine. I just bought another case, and the price had jumped to $11.99 ea., but it's still worth it!

The Wine...Faustino VII 2009...The Scene....our house with my parents and brother over for a lazy Sunday BBQ. Purchased this bottle for my brother's birthday. I like the wines from the Rioja region so I'm exploring these with thought process of picking out cool looking old beared men on the bottles...gotta start somewhere...all of us had a taste of this one...nothing going on with this one...nice taste, easy on the tongue...not too bad...main thing was that brother Jim enjoyed the bottle.

He started out by selling his wines in the Rioja and Basque regions, direct from the barrel. Much has changed since then and the winery he founded has since become known as one of the premier fine wine producers of the Rioja...

Learn About Rioja

(ree-OH-hah) This highly regarded area of Spain makes some of the best Tempranillo-based wines in the world. Once the only DOCa (recently joined by Priorat in 2001), Rioja is divided into 3 sub-regions: Rioja Baja, Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa. There are 4 red varieties and 3 white varieties allowed in the Rioja DOC. Tempranillo definitely takes center stage, followed by Garnacha...
