Famille Perrin Les Christins Vacqueyras 2007
Rhone Red Blends from Vacqueyras, Rhone, France
The Vacqueyras les Christins comes from 20 acres that are leased by the Perrin family and managed by the Beaucastel team. The vineyards are within the commune of Sarrians, south of the Dentelles de Montmirail, between Carpentras and Vaison-la-Romaine, and the vines have an average age of 50 years. Clearly a wine from a warm place, with an amber hue and a rich texture, the nose is of morello cherries, flowers and licorice. On the palate it shows an unctuous texture and is rich and concentrated.
International Wine Cellar - "Vivid ruby. Powerfully scented, complex bouquet of red berries, incense and minerals. Blackberry and cassis flavors are deep and sweet, with slow-building licorice quality on the back. The gently tannic finish is spicy and impressively long. Range: 90-92"
Wine Spectator - "Dark, with a nice juicy beam of blackberry and crushed red currant fruit backed by graphite and dark licorice notes on the finish. This fleshes out nicely in the glass. Rock-solid."
Famille Perrin Winery
Jean-Pierre, François and Pierre Perrin are proud to present their fine wines, inspired by the memory of their grandfather, Pierre Perrin. Using the same techniques employed at Château de Beaucastel, the Perrins have added some interesting appellations to their already impressive list of wines.
"Jean-Pierre and François Perrin - chosen among the Most Influential Wine Personalities of the last 20 Years. The Perrins believe in natural winemaking, unfiltered wines, and routinely produce long-lived classics that are among the finest in the world." -Robert M. About VacqueyrasView a map of Vacqueyras wineries (vah-keh-rahs) Once just a Cotes-du-Rhone village, the wine of Vacqueyras made its mark and in 1990, gaining its own appellation. The wine is somewhat similar to its northern neighbor, Gigondas, and occasionally even more rustic. Vacqueyras wine gives off the flavors of the earth where the vines grow - wild herbs, spice and rocky soil.
Notable FactsLike other Southern Rhone wine, Grenache is the main player here, and a minimum of 50% of the varietal is required, allowing the blend more room for varietals like Syrah and Mourvedre. Often found for good value prices, these wines are perfect for hearty meat stews and herb-based dishes.
About France - Other regionsWhen it comes to wine, France is a classic. Classic blends, grapes and styles began in the country and they still remain. Think about it - people ask for a Burgundian style Pinot Noir, they refer to wines as Bordeaux or Rhone blends - Champagne even had to pass a law to stop international wineries from putting their region on the label of all sparkling wine.
The top regions of France are: Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Languedoc-Roussillon, Loire, Rhone. And these regions are so diverse! It makes sense that wine regions throughout the world try to emulate their style. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah are no longer French varieties, but international varieties. They may not be the leader of cutting edge technology or value-priced wines, but there is no doubt that they are still producing wines of great quality and diversity.
