Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

Clear, bright, deep red almost black color with elegant red notes. A nose of violets, black fruits, some mint, graphite, and chocolate. Very complex and elegant. On the palate it is sweet and gentle at first, dark fruit flavors explode with fine tannins. Long finish.

The 2006 Marguery Atento Malbec spent 18 months in new French oak. Purple/black-colored, it offers up a brooding bouquet of pain grille, asphalt, violets, spice box, black cherry, and plum. This leads to a dense, layered, powerful Malbec with ripe black fruit, plenty of fine-grained tannin, and a lengthy, pure finish. Give it 3-4 years to blossom and drink it from 2013 to 2026.

Familia Marguery's Atento cuvee is a barrel selection of the winery’s top lots made only in the finest vintages.

In Bodega Familia Marguery produce high quality wines in limited quantities, using the latest technology with a focus on Malbec. =We firmly believe our mission is to try to preserve what has been achieved in the cellar in the vineyard, without masking, without excessive intervention in order to show and the character of the fruit and the region of origin.

Our first harvest was in 2000 and began operating in the market in 2002.

Most distinguished and celebrated from Argentina’s Mendoza, Malbec has seen runaway success since the early 2000s. Mendoza’s agreeable, continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold snowy winters allows the perfect conditions for growing outstanding Malbec. This grape is easy to like for its lusty, deep flavors and aromas of blackberry, plum, red cherry, autumn spice and tilled earth. It’s easy to find delicious, fruit-driven, affordable everyday examples and in prices beyond, quite exceptional ones with dense, supple textures that make them capable of aging.
