Winemaker's Notes:
Etude Heirloom Pinot Noir, produced from several heirloom selections of Carneros Pinot Noir, is dedicated to the celebration and preservation of plant diversity. It is an example of the superior wines – unusually expressive, concentrated and pure – that issue from original varieties or clones offering unique genetic characteristics.
All the fruit in this Pinot Noir is grown on the Etude Estate Vineyards in Carneros and comes from shy-bearing selections with a marked tendency to produce small, irregularly shaped bunches and very small berries. Growers typically hold such vines in low regard due to their inability to produce consistent crops. This tenuous economic viability threatens their existence.
This Intriguing and expressive Pinot Noir opens with aromas of raspberry, violet, black tea and spice. The generous fruit flavors and vibrant acidity create a broad palate. The velvety tannins and wonderful oak integration carry through on the long finish, which is persistent with hints of orange zest and spice. This young wine will continue to evolve for several more years and promises exceptional complexity and age-worthiness. |
