About Estancia:
Estancia began in 1986 in Alexander Valley where they found a perfect appellation for their Red Meritage, a Bordeaux blend from their diverse hillside and benchland vineyards that displays Alexander Valley's accessible tannins and bold fruit intensity.
In 1988, Estancia's search for the best vineyard site for their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir led them to the cooler climates and lighter graveled soils of Monterey's Gavilan Mountains just southwest of the Pinnacles National Monument. Vineyard Master Howard Tugel developed a 45-acre experimental vineyard to test nearly 20 clones of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that would be planted across 1,200 acres of vineyards at the Pinnacles Ranch. Estancia's next venture was the acclaimed red-grape growing region of Paso Robles. Nearly 700 acres of prime vineyards supply grapes for their red wines.
Estancia's winemakers strive to combine the best of both worlds: a state-of-the art winemaking facility, and a traditional, hands-on approach to each grape they produce. In the end, this combination allows them to deliver the hand-crafted quality for which their wines are known. While their cutting-edge facilities enable them to take advantage of the beneficial advances in winemaking technology, their commitment to old world processes results in the complexity and elegance found in artisanal and boutique wines.
