Winemaker Notes
This new Ryan vintage reminds winemaker Andy Smith most notably of the 2003 effort, which enjoyed huge critical success and continues to add layers of nuance and complexity in bottle that one would anticipate this 2008 to emulate.

Connoisseurs' Guide
Picking a favorite from the new DuMOL lots is a near-impossible task, and this bottling displays the same striking concentration and depth that marks the group as a whole. It, too, is rife with very rich oak and adds a note of dried violets all of its own, and its sustained, keenly defined fruit is nothing less than a classic expression of pure Russian River Pinot Noir. It is an absolutely delicious wine at the moment, but, make no mistake, its sense of proportion and impeccable balance guarantee at least five or more years of progressive improvement for those who have the patience to wait.

Wine Spectator
Exhibits a rich mix of loamy earth, dried berry, spice, cedar, cherry rhubarb and red and black licorice flavors. Full-bodied, intense and concentrated, with a touch more finesse than the Finn bottling. Drink now through 2019.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The medium ruby-hued 2008 Pinot Noir Ryan is fashioned from Dijon clones and the California clone called "The Martini Selection." A crisp, elegant, fresh Pinot, it offers notes of rhubarb, candied cherries, pomegranate, sassafras and hints of herbs and spice, but not the size of the Aidan. Consume it over the next 7-8 years.
