The Cuvee Laurence opens to garnet color with brick-red glints in the glass. On the nose, scents of garrigue, moving after several years of aging with aromas of stone fruits (plums), leather, fur and underbush.
The development provides complex and spicier notes on the palate.
80% Grenache, 6% Syrah, 4% Mourvèdre, 10% other varieties permitted in the Chateauneuf du Pape AOP.
"Starting off the reds and easily the best example of this cuvee since the 2001, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Laurence is incredible stuff. Deep, rich and layered, with copious notions of smoked meats, licorice, ground pepper, spice and saddle leather, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, terrific fruit intensity and a rich, mouth-coating texture. Hard to resist now, it should nevertheless have two decades of longevity."
The Wine Advocate
"Bright violet color; looks a lot younger than it is. High-pitched red fruit and floral pastille scents are deepened by notes of olive, licorice and smoked meat. Sweet, expansive and seamless, offering intense raspberry and cherry compote flavors accented by white pepper and succulent herbs. Velvety tannins build on a finish of appealing sweetness, with a touch of bitter chocolate. "
