Alcohol By Volume: 14.0%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Deep red color. Highly fruity, with blackcurrant and violet aromas. The wine has fnesse, melted and fine tannins, with a good finish.

Blend: 40% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 15% Cinsault, 10% Carignan, 5% Counoise

Critical Acclaim

"This dark, juicy red delivers a blast of black cherry and crushed plum fruit, with notes of violet and anise. Solid length."
88 Points

"Mordoree's Cotes du Rhone is a classic blend built around 40% Grenache and 30% Syrah, with smaller amounts of the other permitted varieties. The result combines scents of leather and roasted meat with cherries and dark overtones of cocoa and coffee. It's a nicely balanced, full-bodied wine, with just a touch of coarseness to its texture. Drink now-2016."
88 Points

"Dark purple. A musky, deeply scented nose evokes dark fruit compote, licorice and dark chocolate. A lush and substantial wine that offers chewy cassis and bittter cherry flavors, along with a hint of succulent herbs. Finishes on a spicy note, with good cut and a slight hard edge. Give this wine some air."

Learn About Domaine de la Mordoree Map ItMap It

Born from a deep-rooted winegrowing background, it was only in 1986 that the Domaine became entirely dedicated to a passion for wine. Consequently, the Domaine sold all other businesses in the field of hi-tech ventilated suits.

This choice was matured through long consideration and thought for both quality and environment-friendliness. The goal was clear: produce the best wine in each appellation, while preserving nature and man. La Mordoree therefore acquired new lands, broadening its vineyards and enriching its appellations with new cherished parcels of land.

A Cote of Many Grapes The appellation of Cotes du Rhone encompasses much of the land of the area, not to mention much of the wine - over two-thirds of the wine produced here is of the Cotes-du-Rhone appellation. Wines here need only be from the Cotes de Rhone geographic area (which is fairly large) and consist of one or more of the 22 varieties permitted. Being such a wide...

Learn About Rhone Red Blends

The Rhone region of France has a delightful selection of red varieties. There are 22 grapes allowed in the Rhone AOC, about half of them red. Most of these varieties are used as secondary blending partners, often comprising less than 10% of the blend. The primary red players of Rhone blends are Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. Most wines from the Southern Rhone use Grenache as their...
