    Winemaker's Notes

Another winner from Beaurenard! Ripe and spicy, with cassis, chocolate, black olive and thyme flavors. This is a baby Chateaneuf -- it rocks with juicy home grilled hamburgers.

80% Grenache, 20% Syrah. This wine, using grapes from a selection of the finest slopes and narrow terraces of the famous terroir of Rasteau, is very concentrated and has an appealingly forceful personality. Besides aromas of very ripe fruits, it generally offers spicy notes and garrigue scrubland scents provided by this terroir. A fine tannic structure from the outset, very much in the Beaurenard style: this is a wine of great character, elegant and well-balanced.

In 1344, it was reported to the Pope living in Avignon that the principal vineyards are Bois Renard, Blacquieres, Bois de Senechaux, Cabrieres, Carbonnieres, Colombis, and Mont Redon. Adding vineyards over the past 300 years,...

    (Rahs-toe)

Rasteau is its own appellation when it comes to vins doux natural (sweet wines) but is only a Côtes du Rhône Village when it comes to dry wines (red, white and rose). As an appellation, the sweet wines produced are almost all Grenache-based and red to brown in color. Similar to Beaumes de Venise, but closer in style to the sweet stickies of Australia. Also known as Rancio. As a Cotes du Rhone Village, Rasteau produces excellent wines, some as high quality as any Rhone AC.

Most of these varieties are used as secondary blending partners, often comprising less than 10% of the blend. The primary red players of Rhone blends are Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. Most wines from the Southern Rhone use Grenache as their...
