Domaine Pierre Matrot

The Domaine was developed in 1914 by Joseph Matrot in Meursault and further expanded by his son Pierre in 1937. Pierre bought vineyards and modernized the estate at that time. Thierry, Pierre's son, joined the estate in 1976. He took over the vinification since 1983 on. Together with his father, he continued to establish the reputation of Domaine Matrot and its wines. In January 2000, Thierry and his wife Pascale formed a limited liability company allowing them to buy and sell the harvest of all the vineyards, comprised of the estates of Pierre Matrot and those of the heirs of Joseph Matrot. To this day, Thierry is charge of all operations and has impacted with his own vision and philosophy by first abandoning chemical fertilizers and replacing with organic products. He also implemented sustainable techniques, which resulted in the organic cultivation of all of vineyards since the beginning of 2000. The wines produced are matured 11 to 12 months in oak barrels, using one- to five-year-old barrels for the white wines and 10 to 20 % new barrels for the reds. Altogether, 50 acres of vineyards produce 14 appellations, mainly Meursault Villages and Premiers Crus, Puligny-Montrachet, Bourgogne Blanc, Meursault Rouge and Blagny.
