Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 15.0%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Brilliant red color. Nice aromatic intensity with fruit like black currant, raspberry and blackberry. The palate is rich, concentrated and fruity with elegant tannins.

Critical Acclaim

"The Lafage 2009 Cuvee Nicolas - also bottled as "Cote Grenache"; sourced principally from Les Aspres; cold-soaked, and vinified in upright demi-muids - is plush and glycerin-rich yet neither heavy nor warm. Nutty underlying richness and a sounding board of wet stone compliment and set-off ripe dark berry fruit that really envelops the palate. This irresistible essence of Grenache ought to merit service for at least 3-4 years. "

I had given some of these bottles to my friends for Christmas and they all loved it. I had a bottle for myself and I also liked it. My friend had paired it with some pasta, and I had paired it with my red meat. Both are great with this wine.

Style: Smooth & Supple
I really liked this wine. You want to give it at least an hour to open up and after that you will enjoy it. The wine is a medium bodied, balanced wine and a great find for the price.

Presented with less 'heat' after an hour in the decanter, quite nice.
