Easily one of the most complete, balanced and expressive wines of the southern Rhone. A rich, saturated and juicy blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah, from the rocky cliffs of the granite Dentelles de Montmirail. We're going to be stocking this one away for decades; it is a blockbuster today and will only get better. Richness, structure, freshness, silky tannins, a long finish—it has it all.
"(70% grenache and 30% syrah, planted at 300 meters altitude): Deep ruby. Highly perfumed aromas of raspberry preserves, Asian spices and cola, with slow-mounting spiciness. Broad and deep but fresh, with juicy red and dark berry flavors lifted by notes of lavender pastille and anise. Fine-grained tannins add shape and grip to the long, sappy, seamless finish.

"The 2009 Gigondas (70% Grenache and 30% Syrah aged in both tank and 1- to 3-year-old barrels) exhibits a deep ruby/purple color along with lots of berry fruit intermixed with crushed rock and spring flower notes. Elegant yet solidly constructed with silky tannins and impressive purity as well as length, it should drink well for 7-8 years.
