Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2009 Arthur has surprised me in so many ways. I expected it to be more like 2006 because of the similar heat accumulation through the year. But it seems that 2009 takes the best of 2006 (ripe, lush, round fruit) and the best of 2008 (bright acidity and sharp structure), and combines them in a most enjoyable way. The gently honeyed texture and trademark range of white flower aromatics is delicious.

Critical Acclaim

"Buttery and rich, with scents of biscuits and sweet pineapple, this wine has generous fruit that overlays lees and savory flavors. Its opulent texture suggests a pairing with something as rich as coq au vin blanc. "
91 Points

"The 2009 Chardonnay Estate Arthur was fermented half in stainless steel and half in 30% new oak with only the latter going through malolactic fermentation. Mineral, baking spices, hazelnuts, and butterscotch aromas inform the nose of a vibrant, lively, elegant, nicely proportioned Chardonnay that will drink well over the next several years. "

Pair with: Salmon > Grilled
I know chardonnays mostly taste like oak barrel, but not this one. Pairs well with salmon. This chard is one of the best that I have had and let me tell you, fermented in steel and oak gives a wonderful rich, creamy smooth tast on the palate. I fell in love with this Chard. Try it before you miss out!
