Winemaker Notes

The 2013 edition of the Domaine Carneros Estate Pinot Noir packs a full range of flavors. Beginning with the nose one encounters black raspberry, cherry, and plum along with savory notes of loamy earth, cola, and sandal wood. 10 months of barrel age lends a sweetness that balances the supple tannin from this exceptional vintage producing an intense full bodied Pinot noir. The hallmark of Domaine Carneros Pinot Noir is the texture and this wine delivers with a supple and silky mouth-feel guaranteed to please.

This Pinot can be enjoyed as an aperitif or paired with a diverse group of dishes such as beef, poultry, pork or grilled salmon, prepared in a variety of culinary styles.

Tight and dense, in a moderately rich style, putting the emphasis on vibrant acidity and snappy fresh fruit that echoes black cherry, plum and blackberry flavors. Drink now through 2020.

Domaine Carneros, California
Domaine Carneros Winery Video
A joint venture between Champagne Taittinger and Kobrand Corporation, partners who are perfectionists in their fields, Domaine Carneros has established itself since its inception in 1987 as one of California's finest producers of premium quality, methode traditionelle sparkling wines. The inspiration for Domaine Carneros belongs to Champagne Taittinger; the first glimmerings of the concept were shaped in the mind of Claude Taittinger in 1947. The 138 acre estate is situated in the Carneros appellation of Northern California, a 36,900 acre viticultural area which straddles the border between the Napa and Sonoma counties at their southern extremity. The estate's vineyards extend up a slope rising to a crest overlooking San Francisco and San Pablo Bay, with an elevation of 120 to 260 feet above sea level.

As early as the 1970s Carneros became known as a source of terrific Pinot Noir, and was one of the first California regions to gain such a reputation. The combination of sunny days, cooling fog and thin clay soils are tailor-made for the variety. Another factor in Pinot Noir’s prominent place here is vintners’ willingness to experiment widely. The history of the grape in Carneros is marked by continuous research into clonal variations, viticultural techniques and site selection. Careful evaluation over time has revealed a signature flavor profile as well. Complex aromas and flavors of cherry, red berry, spice, earth and cola appear time and again in Carneros Pinot Noir. To this day the appellation remains one of California’s standard bearers for the variety.
