Winemaker's Notes

Guy Ricard, a third generation vintner is impassioned by viticulture. He cultivates a well exposed vineyard on the stony terraces of the Ouvèze river. The grape varieties consist mainly of Grenache and Syrah with which he elaborates a powerful and generous Vacqueyras as well as fine and elegant Cotes Du Rhone and finally the Merlot assembled with the Syrah that one finds in his Vins de Pays. The "Couroulu" wines have been obtaining medals and awards for years.

Critical Acclaim

"Vivid red. Seductively perfumed, complex bouquet of red and dark berries, Asian spices and minerals. Pinot-like in aromas and flavors, with sweet raspberry and blackberry notes, silky texture and good back-end snap. This graceful wine is already very tasty but is balanced to age."
91 Points

"Ripe and lush, but well-harnessed, as mesquite and iron notes lend a tangy frame to the solid core of mulled plum, blackberry and fig fruit. The finish is long and smoldering. Drink now through 2011. 1,000 cases imported."
90 Points

"The 2007 Vacqueyras Cuvee Classique is just that. Kirsch liqueur, roasted Provencal herbs, spice box, licorice, and lavender soar from the glass of this full-bodied, richly fruity wine, which has superb depth, density, and a 30+-second finish. This is an impressively endowed, round, voluptuous style of Vacqueyras, but don’t make the mistake of drinking it all in its exuberant youthfulness, as it will keep for 6-7 years. It is a blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre aged in foudres. "

Wife and I truly enjoy a bottle in the evening tasting all the flavors and sensing all the fragrances. It has become our 'time' together -- alas not on a daily basis, yet. This wine is absolutely the BEST we've ever tried. The fruits just explode in the mouth -- almost literally. This is the most enjoyable wine we've ever tried. Wish I had bought cases -- I can't find any more.

Learn About Vacqueyras

(vah-keh-rahs) Once just a Cotes-du-Rhone village, the wine of Vacqueyras made its mark and in 1990, gaining its own appellation. The wine is somewhat similar to its northern neighbor, Gigondas, and occasionally even more rustic. Vacqueyras wine gives off the flavors of the earth where the vines grow - wild herbs, spice and rocky soil. Notable Facts Like other Southern Rhone...

Learn About Rhone Red Blends

The Rhone region of France has a delightful selection of red varieties. There are 22 grapes allowed in the Rhone AOC, about half of them red. Most of these varieties are used as secondary blending partners, often comprising less than 10% of the blend. The primary red players of Rhone blends are Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. Most wines from the Southern Rhone use Grenache as their...
