Dehlinger's three-acre Estate Syrah Vineyard sources the fruit for two bottlings: the "Goldridge" Syrah (from vines grown in the deeper Goldridge soil portions of the vineyard) and the "Altamont" Syrah (from vines grown on the higher elevation Altamont Soil). Periodically, the east-facing portion of the vineyard is bottled separately as "East Face Syrah." This high ridge of drier soil is less vigorous and produces the most concentrated wine.
The Syrahs are aged in 132 gallon oak puncheons. Twice the volume of a standard barrel, these casks permit a longer, slower maturation and a more delicate oak profile that showcases the varietal power of our wines.

The Dehlinger vineyard, family operated since 1975, comprises 45 acres of rolling hillside vines on a mixture of Goldridge and Altamont soils in Sonoma County's Russian River Valley. A landmark Octagon House, also dating from 1975, stands atop a hill near the entrance to the property. Varietals grown and produced are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, with a combined annual volume averaging 7000 cases. The winery is owned by winemaker Tom Dehlinger and his wife, Carole, who live together on the property. The Russian River Valley is named as such due to its proximity to the Russian River, the river itself named for the Russian fur traders who came down from Alaska in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The Russian River is agricultural land. While there is a focus on wine, beyond the vineyards are many small, family-owned farms cultivating everything from cattle to Christmas trees.
Notable FactsThe proximity of this cool river and the rolling fogs from the Pacific Ocean make the area amenable to cool-climate grapes like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. In fact, the region is quite known for its full-bodied, yet elegant Pinot Noir, as well as their ripe, yet lean Chardonnays. Within Russian River Valley lie the smaller appellations of Chalk Hill and Green Valley. Chalk Hill is the warmer of the two and furthest from the ocean, while Green Valley is cooler and closer to the water.
