The 1997 De Loach Vineyards Estate Bottled Zinfandel is a deep, ruby color, big and rich, with intense, deep, ripe varietal fruit aromas. The wine has the complex flavors of blackberry, raspberry, and black pepper. The ripe fruit flavors on the palate are followed by firm acidity and layers of vanilla in the long, jammy finish. In addition, a small percentage of Petite Sirah adds a cedar and black pepper element to the depth and density of the wine and its tannin structure. This 1997 Estate Zinfandel is an excellent barbecue wine; try serving Tri-tip and grilled vegetables. Or it will pair nicely with dishes having Italian tomato-base sauces. Its a meal all by itself.
