Our Grenache comes from Crossroads Vineyard, which occupies a small oak-studded nook across from our winery in the Santa Ynez Valley. The 2007 vintage begins with bright aromas of strawberry jam, vanilla cream and spice. Round, juicy flavors of black cherry and raspberry are embraced by accents of clove and mocha. Fresh acidity carries a long, balanced finish.
"Grown at the Crossroads Vineyard, planted in 1998 and owned at the time by Curtis, this vibrant strawberry-red grenache includes 18 percent syrah, adding an earthy edge of flint and game. There's tension between the bright, juicy, red-spiced fruit and the cooler seashell minerality. Decant this for roast quail or other dark-meat game birds.
