Cupcake Vineyards Riesling 2012
Riesling from Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany
Cultivated on steep inclines in the Mosel Valley, these grapes are hand-picked, then destemmed and gently pressed. We use a Rieslingspecific yeast in a cool and slow fermentation to accentuate delicate flavors. By aging the wine sur lie and stirring it regularly for up to two months, we impart roundness to the body and create soft, creamy notes.
At Cupcake Vineyards, our goal is to craft the richest, smoothest and most elegantly textured wines. To ensure this, we select our grapes from vineyards that are truly expressive of the varietals that we grow. Our Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot come from California’s sun-drenched Central Coast, where the distinctive topography and climate moderated by the Pacific Ocean yields some of California's best world-class wines. Our Sauvignon Blanc comes from the Marlborough valley of New Zealand, where the long days and cool climate allow the grapes to mature slowly over a longer period of time. The wines from the Mosel have a most distinctive soil based on slate. The slate-rich soils covering the region are what imparts the amazing, well-loved slate-y, mineraly flavors and aromas to the delicate Mosel wines. To keep this necessary slate in tact, when the rock slide down the steep vineyard hillsides, the vineyard workers grab a bucket and carry the rocks right back up to the vines. There is a level of care taken in the vineyards of Mosel that rivals most other regions. Tasting the wines helps to understand why.
It's not rare to see a wine's country of origin listed as "California." A country into itself in the wine world, California makes enough varieties and styles to match many European wine countries. It produces a diverse range of wines that span the quality spectrum.

I received a bottle of this for my 60th birthday. I love it. One of my favorites. I did not smell any mold? Rieslings from Germany are my favorites. I like them on the sweeter side and I think this leans a little toward that side.kelli4664 - Richmond, VA111/16/2013tastes like mold smells
