The 2007 Expatriate Shiraz was sourced from 65 year old vines yielding a meager 1 ton per acre of fruit. The wine spent 20 months in 100% new French oak. Purple-colored, it displays an expressive nose of toasty new oak, scorched earth, pencil lead, espresso, violets, and assorted black fruits. This is followed by a full-bodied, velvety textured, rich Shiraz with enough well-concealed tannin to evolve for 2-3 years. This round, savory, lengthy effort will drink well through 2022. It is a superb wine from a challenging vintage.

This collaboration is born of Benjamin Hammerschlag's relationship with the Oliver family and in particular, with winemaker Corrina Rayment, who naturally fits into the group of young and progressive winemakers. Rayment is a progressive thinker and she's willing to take risks. Her wines are deigned to offer the best aspects of McLaren Vale - texture, suppleness and intensity.
