Alcohol By Volume: 14.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Ink Grade Vineyard. The imprint of Howell Mountain clearly identifies this wine: intense fruit tempered with savory herbal notes, rich tannins, good acid for aging, and many layers of complexity. Fresh raspberries lead in the nose followed by mocha/chocolate, a subtle nuance of pine needles, mint and herb tea, with an undercurrent of vanilla rounding out the aromas. The entry starts big and blooms with a very rich and full mid-palate. The finish is strong cocoa and caramel with a little more "grip" than the Napa Valley bottling.

Learn About Cornerstone Cellars

Cornerstone Cellars began producing Cabernet Sauvignon and the occasional Zinfandel from Howell Mountain fruit in 1991. The focus continues to be on Howell Mountain vineyards that produce intense wines with the forward berry character typical of the appellation, balanced by Frenck oak and a slight note of sweet herbs. The wines are made by Celia Masyczek. Total 1999 bottling was 1858 cases.

The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard...

Learn About Cabernet Sauvignon

(cab-uhr-NAY sow-veeh-yawn) King of Red Many refer to Cabernet Sauvignon as the king of red grapes. Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
