Winemaker Notes

Conn Creek Cabernet Sauvignon offers notes of cherry, currant, plum and pomegranate mingle with toasted pecan, cocoa powder and a light overlay of vanilla. Bright red fruits dominate a lively palate that emphasizes nuance over boldness.

Professional Ratings

  • 90
Dusty waves of milk chocolate sway over blackberry and black currant in this tightly woven wine, its tannins still thick and richly layered and the oak tight. Let it open a bit in the glass to let the rougher edges soften before enjoying.
  • 90
This is a generous, gentle cabernet with silken textures and warm, purple juiciness to its fruit. It finishes on smoky, tobacco-scented tannins, which carry some heat. Serve it cellar temperature with a steak.

Conn Creek is a boutique winery on the Silverado Trail in the Rutherford district. For 40 years, the winery has focused on Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-styled wines. In search of the best Cabernet Sauvignon, we've discovered many exceptional single-vineyard sites throughout Napa Valley.

Today, Conn Creek sources fruit from prized vineyards in nearly all of Napa Valley's 15 renowned sub-appellations to provide winemaker Mike McGrath with an unparalleled palette from which to blend each wine. It's an approach that captures the "Best of Napa Valley."

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
