Toad Hollow Francine's Selection Unoaked Chardonnay 2010

We are huge fans of unoaked Chardonnays, especially French style. This one for us falls between the cheaper mass-market Australian versions and some of the fuller, rounder unoaked chardonnays. The price point, however, wasn't there for the quality. It was a good wine, but did not win on value.

Joel Gott Blend No. 815 Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

The 2011 Joel Gott 815 Cab definitely needs more time to evolve before enjoying. Had this June 2013 and it is very one dimensional, and resembles a young zinfandel. Too soft and flat. Hopefully it just needs time to mature versus not being a good vintage entirely... Only time will tell! The 2010 vintage, however, is terrific.

Scala Dei Priorat Prior 2003

The wine is absolutely lovely in the glass, with deep purple colors, and a nose that just exudes dark fruit, with ample aromas of ripe plum, blackberry and cassis overlaying a hint of leather and cedar. The taste is wonderfully complex, with a burst of fruit up front, lovely ripe plum, black cherry, and sweet blackberry that transition to some wonderful herb notes, along with some earthy notes of limestone and forest floor. The finish is just wonderful, as the refined tannins support a long, lush and dry finish (I know those seem like contradictory terms, but really they aren't!). Bottle is in decent condition I guess. Part of the Spade logo was coming off. This DOES NOT come in the nice black box. I was expecting that it did, and it would be nice if the description mentioned that one way or another. It was disappointing. As for the taste of the wine I have not tasted it yet because I bought this for my wedding, so I wont open it for a few weeks yet.

A serious Sauvignon Blanc, very textual. Displays classic SB aromas but with a rich food friendly palate. Definitely shines when consumed with food. I recently had it with Citrus Shrimp and the match was sublime. The citrus segments in the dish really brought out the vibrant citrus notes in this wine.
