From day one, the 2005 Herb Lamb Vineyard Cabernet has been an incredibly fragrant wine in the making. With a beautiful ruby pitch, the wine shows an amazing concentration of flavors. Earthy notes of truffle and forest floor intermingle with brooding aromas of black fruits, resin, chocolate mint and smoked meats, making for a very seductive Herb Lamb Cabernet. The wine is at once supple and rich, revealing great breadth across the palate. The softened texture of the tannin make this vintage of Herb Lamb Cabernet remarkably delicious at release, but this wine will undoubtedly improve with a minimum of 5 years of age, and last 20-25 years.

Sweet, dense and lively, with lovely spicy lightness to the flavors of plum, rose petal and tobacco. There's something almost Burgundian about the texture of this wine. This boasts terrific energy and length, finishing with sweet spices and flowers and substantial tongue-dusting tannins. Vineyard management expert David Abreu took over here in 2005 and has taken this wine to a higher level by getting more uniformity of ripeness from this site."

"Colgin is one of the reference points for just what heights mountain-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Bordeaux varietals, and more recently, Syrah, can achieve in Napa Valley. This beautiful estate and winery overlooking Lake Hennessey is owned by Joe Wender and his wife, Ann Colgin (equally renowned for her auctioneering skills), who are assisted by David Abreu, the well-known Bordeaux wine consultant, Dr. Alain Raynaud, and Allison Tauziet, who has skillfully replaced the brilliant Mark Aubert. As the scores and tasting notes suggest, this was an exceptional tasting. Colgin’s 2006s are among the finest wines produced in the vintage.
