Alcohol By Volume Guide
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
The 1996 vintage of this wine was ranked #7 on the Wine Spectator's Top 10 Wines of 1997
Pale straw green in color and enticingly fragrant, the 2011 Sauvignon Blanc offers lifted aromas of ripe stonefruit and juicy citrus with underlying notes of blackcurrant leaf and tomato plant spice.
The palate is fine yet succulent, with zesty citrus flavours and fresh acidity. There is an appealing plushness about this wine especially as it leads into a lingering and characteristically crisp finish.
"Focused and pure, offering a tangy expression of balanced lemon, white peach, tangerine, passion fruit, melon and
green tea notes. This is powerful in its persistence and juiciness, yet maintains an air of elegance. Drink now. 30,000
"The 2011 Sauvignon Blanc offers intense notes of gooseberries, passion fruit, grapefruit zest and grass with a hint of fresh herbs. Crisp, dry and medium bodied with a good concentration of grapefruit and herb flavors, it gives a long tropical fruit laced finish. Delicious now, it should remain fresh through 2013."
The Wine Advocate
"This Marlborough classic remains on form, artfully blending pineapple and crushed tomato leaf notes. If it’s a bit leaner than some examples from the region, it’s also more elegant and refined; less explosive and flamboyant, but tighter and more focused."
"Green-tinged yellow. Good dusty, spicy lift to the ripe, inviting aromas of orange pith, grapefruit and minerals. Broad, supple and ripe, with harmonious acidity giving shape to the sexy soft citrus, tropical fruit and dusty herb flavors. Easygoing for this bottling, conveying very good but not outstanding grip. Finishes pure and persistent, with a slight narrowing at the end."
