Winemaker's Notes

Incredible pricing on this blend of old vine Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from the Costa Brava at Celler Mas Gil. Made by winemaker extraordinaire Peter Sisseck of Pingus fame - don't miss out on this price.

"($100) Ruby-red. Powerfully scented nose features blueberry, cassis and cherry liqueur laced with espresso, licorice and smoked meat. Firm in structure but explosive in ripe dark fruit flavor, with complicating notes of bacon fat, black cardamom, iron and cigar box. Finishes with building richness and great length. This is another Peter Sisseck project."

I think the previous reviewer must either not have let the bottle breathe, or had a bad sample. We followed the recommendations to breathe for at least an hour, and found the wine absolutely delightful.

This either went bad or was never good. Very foul tasting. If it hadn't been 70% off and if I had bought more than one bottle I'd be very unhappy

With Peter Sisseck of Pingus fame as consulting winemaker, the property has taken the wine world by surprise with a sophisticated, complex white wine made with Rhone varietals and a deeply concentrated, expressive red.

The most popular red varieties of Spain include Tempranillo and Garnacha (Grenache). Whites don't garner quite as much recognition, but there are some regional varieties not to be missed, like Albarino...

There are a multitude of grape varieties throughout the world, however, in a Darwinian sense, survival of the fittest only brings us wines made from grapes that can adapt to changing climates and winemaking techniques.
