Clos Jean

Loupiac is a small town about 30 minutes away south of Bordeaux on the right bank of the Garonne river. Vine has been cultivated there since roman times. Loupiac has a local trade mark which covers 865 acres of vine, all part of the great Bordeaux liquorous white wine family. The grapes come from late gathering and are successively picked during the sunny days of automn when the early morning mist provides "botrytis cinerera" which generates the liquorous white wines.

The history of Clos Jean dates back to 1549 when the son of Jean de Mondenard III, Lord of Roquelaure, settled in the Bordeaux country with the Duke of Epernon. This son, called Jean IV, maried Mary Goussem on July 26 1566. He made his home in Loupiac, district of Cadillac, at a spot called "Clau Jan" (Clos-Jean).
