This wine forms part of Clarendon Hills' "1er Cru" classification.
Deep, spicy dark fruits line this earthy and liquorice basement. Upstairs, there is tobacco and boot leather. Roofed with lavender and coffee, this is the house that cornas built. Layered and with a velvety texture, the palate is luxurious and the nose is liqueur-like smooth. It has depth and balance to warrant 25 years, or 25 minutes.
"The 2008 Moritz Vineyard Syrah possesses a deep garnet-purple color and offers warm blackberry and black currant notes with some vanilla, toast, cumin seed, fennel seed and damp earth plus a whiff of truffles. Full-bodied with medium-firm grainy tannins, concentrated fruit and high acid, it finishes long with lingering Indian spice flavors."
The Wine Advocate
"Of all the Clarendon Hills 2008 Syrahs, the Moritz probably offers the best value. It’s plummy, dark and intense, with savory overtones of meat and spice that complement the wine’s full body and creamy texture. The long finish echoes with hints of coffee, meat and plummy fruit."
