Winemaker's Notes

This wine forms part of Clarendon Hills' '1er Cru' classification.

The most densely structured of the Grenache's thus far. Recessed and slow to emerge from its shell – The Kangarilla vineyard offers majesty in both extension and girth. The depth of savory, but fresh fruit within the extract remains with this vineyard for well over 15 years. Cleanliness and character define this site. More backward than the Blewitt Springs or Onkaparinga – it is almost the slowest maturing wine in the varietal domain.

Critical Acclaim

"Bright, dark red. Pure, aromatic nose combines black cherry, tar, licorice, pepper and eucalyptus. Lush, dense and pure, with fresh, sharply delineated flavors of dark berries and pepper. Finishes long, strong and sweet, with firm but fine tannins. An excellent showing today."
92 Points

"The 2001s seem to be right at that magical peak. The 2001 Grenache Kangarilla Vineyard is powerful, rich, and full-bodied with plenty of black cherry, licorice, and herb characteristics. No longer the big, rich fruit bomb it was in its first 2-3 years of life, it has become very Provencal-like in its peppery spiciness."
