Alcohol By Volume: 14.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2004 Brookman Merlot highlights the quality of the fruit that is produced from forty-six year old vines, planted on deep clay soils. This intense Merlot is dark ruby in color and offers aromas of herbs, rich blueberries, blackberries and hints of coffee bean. On the palate the wine reveals intense dark chocolate, plums, mocha and earth spices. It is a powerful Merlot with wonderful layered precision and elegance.

Critical Acclaim

"Clarendon Hills’ Merlot can be very interesting. Their 2004 Merlot Brookman Vineyard, while displaying a certain herbal character, offers gorgeous layers of white chocolate, sweet black cherries, and a hint of espresso roast. With terrific fruit, an opulent texture, and a fleshy, up-front style, it is best consumed over the next 7-8 years. "

This was a real surprise in a great way. The fruit scent were unique. Worth $50 a bottle. A steal any lower than that. Went great with lobster and oysters.

Now this was a truly distinctive wine. You will love or hate it, with not much in between. We adore all Clarendon Hills and were thrilled to see this fairly arcane wine appear. Not that worried about the date, but make note of it, as it is drinking now and you should not hold. Nice aroma, but distinctive berry and vegetally (sp?) over and undertones. I loved, but only once. My wife not so much. Try a bottle.

Learn About Merlot

Merlot(mehr-LOW) No second fiddle Merlot is coming back into its own. High popularity led to mass production, which then led to a backlash towards the variety (remember Miles in Sideways?). But passionate Merlot producers, and of course the right bank of Bordeaux, continued to produce quality versions of this grape. Merlot remains the principle grape of top chateaux in St...
