A blend of 55% Grenache and 45% Shiraz.
It was once the tradition of a small group of Barossa pioneers to retreat to the cool stone depths of an old vineyard cottage. Here they would while away many hours playing cards and drinking wine away from the critical eyes of puritanical souls. The cottage still stands among the vines that produce this wine, a flavorful, aromatic drink that always ‘comes up trumps!'
"The purple-colored 2007 Trumps Grenache (55%)-Shiraz (45%) was sourced from vines ranging in age from 55-80 years and was aged for 15 months in 2 year old French barrels. It offers up an alluring bouquet of cedar, scorched earth, black cherry, and blueberry. Supple, ripe, and easy-going on the palate, this forward, friendly effort can be enjoyed over the next 6 years."
The Wine Advocate
"Vivid ruby. Intensely perfumed bouquet displays scents of blackberry, truffle, dried violet and cracked pepper. Juicy dark berry flavors are alluringly sweet and show no rough edges. Becomes deeper and sweeter on the finish, which is long, chewy and gently spicy."
