Winemaker Notes
Blended to evoke each of these aspects of the Merlot's personality in a very Bordelaise style, the wine spends, depending on the vintage, approximately six months in old oak casks to enhance structure and harmony. Sweet, supple berry and wild cherry fruit mark this charming, medium bodied wine. Fruit impressions carry into nuances of herbs and vanilla underscored by a fresh, elegant acidity and ripe, soft tannins.

Wine
The first profits were invested in wine producing properties, beginning, in 1952, with the purchase of Chateau Magdelaine, a Premier Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Emilion. Next were acquired Chateaux La Fleur Pétrus and Trotanoy in Pomerol, to mention only the most famous. This growth necessitated the purchase of larger and larger facilities. Thus, around the old central cellars, which have always been the place where visitors and clients are received, a number of neighboring cellars have been adjoined.
As did all the great houses of Bordeaux, Etablissements Jean-Pierre Moueix suffered greatly from the 1972 crisis, but the individual efforts of each employee and the careful conservatism of management allowed the company to regain its balance and resume growth. Despite this growth, Etablissements Jean-Pierre Moueix has preserved the specialization which from the outset focused on the wines of the company's region, Bordeaux's left bank.
In most of France, wines are named by their place of origin and not by the type of grape (with the exception of Alsace). Just like a red Burgundy is by law, always made of Pinot noir, a red Bordeaux is a blended wine composed mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Depending on the laws of the village from which the grapes come, the conditions of the vintage and decisions of the winemaker, the blend can be further supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and in rare cases, Carmenere. So popular and repeated has this mix of grape varieties become worldwide, that the term, Bordeaux Blend, refers to a wine blended in this style, regardless of origin.
