Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Pale, lemon yellow in color with a slight green reflection. A classic wine made in the Pessac-Leognan style, the elegant nose has hints of lemon and pineapple, with notes of boxwood, typical of the Sauvignon grape, and white flowers. The palate offers well-balanced acidity, sustained lemon notes, and soft vanilla and cinnamon from the oak. This wine will continue to develop well for some years to come.

Critical Acclaim

"This wood-aged wine has richness, toastiness and a concentration of pink grapefruit and fresh kiwi flavors. It’s full and it shows some herbaceousness. It needs to age for 3–4 years."

The current house was built in 1792, and has since been renovated and restored to...

Bourg is the smaller appellation, nestled under the much bigger Blaye. Both have AC status, Cotes de Bourg AC and Cotes de Blaye AC. One step up on the AOC chain is the Premieres Cotes de Blaye AC, producing...

Learn About Bordeaux White Blends

Bordeaux White Blend
There's white wine in Bordeaux, too! Typically made from Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and bits of Muscadelle, white Bordeaux can be a fully dry table wine or, as in Sauternes, a deliciously sweet dessert wine. In other areas of the world, a Bordeaux blend consists primarily of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, either of which may be the predominant variety. Bordeaux blends can vary in style, but most have good acidity and often a mineral overtone.
