Alcohol By Volume: 13.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

One of the oldest Chateau in Bordeaux, originating in 1366, Chateau Timberlay produces estate grown Bordeaux wines with an ecological and terroir driven philosophy. Their offerings combine tradition and authenticity with an approach that makes Bordeaux accessible. This appellation Bordeaux Superieur combines Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grown in a single block, 125 hectare estate with soils with a mix of clay, limestone and sand perfectly suited to these varietals.

This wine is an intense, brilliant ruby red color. It offers a complex fruity bouquet (blackberries, black currants and strawberry) and elegant notes of oak and spice. Well-structured and fresh flavored – the wine is rich and round, with soft, subtle tannins; Long finish has hints of vanilla and cinnamon.

Blend: 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc

The Wine...Ch. Timberlay Bordeaux Superieur 2009...The Scene...dinner at the household with a beef roast that turned out perfect. Opened this bottle and poured into a wine decanter that we purchased for a bargain at one of the dollar stores. I've seen these decanters going for close to $75 dollars online and grabbed this one off the shelf after the wife pointed it out. I guess were getting better at this wine thing now that were letting it breathe. Very fragrant smelling wine...letting my nose hover around the opening of the decanter like a dog sniffing a bone. Liked the taste of the wine that had a plum, blackberry tase to it. Enjoyed this one more than the Bordeaux White Blend that we brought of the same winery. I would buy again...
