Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Intense deep red in color, with lifted aromas of red berry fruit and spice. The palate is soft and supple, yet elegant with plenty of upfront fruit flavor and length. Hints of exotic spices and pepper marry with vanillan oak and a Barossan earthiness on the long lingering finish. Beautifully balanced tannins derived from 18 months in American and French oak complement the luscious fruit and give the wine added complexity.

Critical Acclaim

"Firm and chewy, with a minty edge to the cherry and tobacco flavors, finishing with fine tannins."
89 Points

"Mid-crimson-purple; the blackberry and black cherry fruit of the bouquet, and of the palate, is still to join with the French oak, which presently marches to the tune of its own drum; medium-bodied and fresh, the separate parts should come together over the next few years."
